Playwright Submission Guidelines

CWT is a theatre that embraces and explores a diversity of experience and culture. We encourage the submission of more adventurous work, plays that might employ theatricality devices, language, or action in a creative way (but in low-cost production manner) that support the telling of an interesting story.

Electronic submissions are welcomed. (You may also snail mail—use the address shown in the sidebar for actor submissions.) Please put “Play Submission” in the e-mail subject line. You may send your file(s) in PDF, Microsoft Word, or RTF format. Click here to submit via e-mail.

Please include the following in your submission:

  • A synopsis, no longer than one page
  • Character breakdown
  • Production history, if any
  • Playwright bio
  • 10-page sample

Clockwise Theatre will not ask for subsidiary rights*

*Sharing in the revenues of subsequent productions of plays which receive their world premier at the home theatre

Clockwise and Waukegan

A vibrant diverse community, Waukegan is populated with marvelous historic buildings, storefronts ready for renovation into theatres, bookstores, and art galleries, affordable neighborhood living, a lush, active harbor, all of this married with a location that puts artists in arm’s reach of the huge Lake County audience as well as the urban centers of Chicago and Milwaukee.

The potential to redefine Waukegan by creating an urban, funky, creative vibe similar to SoHo in the 50s and 60s but through the lens of the 21st century has attracted Lake County professionals and artists to the Clockwise board of directors, as well as artists from both Lake County and the larger Chicago metro area to its artistic advisory board.

A perfect storm of events is coming together, including soaring gas prices, a shaky economy, and the urgency to create a greener world, to make this the time to seize the day. Clockwise Theatre hopes to play a vital role in this renaissance.
