Alexandra Main (Actor/Director/Writer) has been a proud member of The Gift Theatre Company since 2003, an award-winning ensemble under the artistic direction of Michael Patrick Thornton. She most recently appeared in The Gift’s encore production of The Ruby Sunrise at Theatre on the Lake this past summer under the direction of fellow ensemble member and Artistic Director of Fox Valley Repertory, John Gawlik. Prior to that she appeared as Nurse Ratched in The Gift’s Jeff nominated production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Alexandra had the privilege of appearing as Vivian Bearing in The Gift’s critically acclaimed production of W;t also under the direction of John Gawlik for which she garnered a Joseph Jefferson Awards Nomination (Equity Wing) for Outstanding Actress in a Principal Role-Play. W;t also garnered Jeff Award Nominations for Production Play-Midsize as well as Lighting Design-Midsize (John Horan). Other Gift productions include Blithe Spirit, Stop/Kiss, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, The Clearing, A Young Man in Pieces, “6” (Six Characters in Search of an Author), County Fair, and The Countess.
Other area acting credits: Bailiwick Repertory, Chicago Actors Ensemble, Eclipse Theatre Company, First Folio Shakespeare Festival, Light Opera Works, Raven Theatre Company, Stage Left Theatre, Theo Ubique Theatre Company, and Zebra Crossing Theatre among others. She assumed the director’s chair for two of the seven pieces presented by The Gift during Week 2 of Suzan-Lori Parks’ nationwide festival of 365 Days/365 Plays and served as assistant director of The Gift’s production of the Jeff nominated Talk Radio. She had the pleasure of bringing Three Cups by Madelyn Sergel to the stage as part of Citadel Theatre’s Monday Night Play Reading Series and has worked with Ms. Sergel on a number of other projects. Other directing credits: A number of stage readings for Writers’ Bloc Festival of New Plays; a touring production of Barefoot in the Park, commissioned by ArtCore of Casper, Wyoming; and [box] produced in association with Mary-Arrchie Theatre. As a writer, Bier and Whine was seen as a workshop production at Raven Theatre Company, and The Eleventh Situation was produced by the Women’s Theatre Alliance New Plays Festival. She holds an MA in performance studies from Northwestern University.
